Bali is perched right at the top of my bucket list right now. Ranging from crystal waters to lush rainforest, glittering rice paddies to bone-white sand, this is a land of lush, luxurious contrasts. It’s a country with the saturation turned up to 100; a country of endless views and glowing colours.
Ubud is a small town in the countryside, surrounded by rice paddies and forests. In recent years, it has grown to become the arts, culture and yoga capital of the island. Home to the Monkey Forest, the town is filled with the chatter of Macaques.
The area is dotted with beautiful places to stay – hidden little gems, nestled amongst the palms. Right at the top of my must-stay list is The Hanging Gardens. This is a beautiful hotel, but the real draw is the pool. Two enormous infinity pools tower over the rainforest below, with the water cascading down from the top pool – isn’t it just the most beautiful pool you’ve ever seen? Rooms from $540 per night.
If you’re looking for something a little more holistic, try Como Shambhala Estate. This is a luxury health and wellness resort – a ‘retreat for change’, as they call themselves. Whilst staying in beautiful Balinese lodges – think chunky teak furniture and billowing white linen – you will be invited to be partake in an array of yoga and wellness classes. There is also an incredible spa – just incase that meditation was too stressful. This is true ‘barefoot luxury’… Rooms from $550 per night.
For those of us – myself included – that can’t afford the bucket list hotel every night – try Airbnb. Airbnb in Bali is a true treasure trove of places to stay – from beachside villas to rainforest retreats, and everything in between. There are some outrageous bargains out there – these are some of my favourites in Ubud…
Villa Bennu – from £78 per night
Bamboo Cottage – from £42 per night
Villa Jiwa – from £111 per night
The Studio Villa Madella – from £51 per night
Wherever you stay, this is guaranteed to be a magical escape – a forested retreat, tucked away on a breathtakingly beautiful island. My itchy feet are calling…
