I haven’t had a great day today. On my way to the tube, it started snowing (yay!), but only the kind of half-hearted, urban snow that never settles – it just makes everything cold and damp and grey (boo). Meanwhile, all my Northern buddies are sharing photos of the winter wonderlands revealing themselves out of their bedroom windows. Double boo.
Fast forward an hour to brunch with one of my favourite travel buddies, and half way through my purse gets stolen out of my bag in the middle of a crowded coffeeshop. Triple boo. Not a great day.
Hence, I need some escapism.
In this dreary, cold and not-quite-wintry-enough-to-be-nice weather, London’s a little bit difficult. Like a belligerent toddler, the city refuses to get all snow-dusted and wintry; it won’t allow too many crisp, bluebird days. Rather, it just settles into a palette of smoggy grey. I need to turn the saturation up: to see turquoise seas and golden sands, azure skies and kaleidoscopic marine life, to feel the scratchy sand between my toes, and the salt crystals drying on my skin. I need a bit of colour back in my life; a gentle reminder that the heat and colour will return (even if my purse won’t). If you’re feeling a little monochromatic too – this is for you.
